The Editorial Associate is an integral part of the Editorial department, connecting the team with other work groups and staying on top of the many details required to keep the department workflow moving and the website and partners updated. The Associate serves as the department's "living index" of the consumer content library, functioning as the point person for what's covered by the Editorial team and supporting curation and promotion efforts. They also serve as the team's point person for requests and deliverables from other departments in the organization. The Associate is responsible for a variety of site maintenance tasks, all of which are part of keeping the Common Sense Media site fresh, timely, and accurate.

LOCATION: San Francisco, California/Remote OK

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

  • Prioritize and develop featured content (including curated lists, review/article updates, and more) based on SEO recommendations/guidelines, site traffic patterns, and organizational priorities and goals.
  • Own media title recommendations for weekly newsletter selections, in coordination with the Marketing and Communications teams.
  • Identify content to highlight and distribute on other channels, including social media, communications pitches, research reports, etc.
  • Keep finger on the pulse of what's trending in kids' media and on media platforms, elevating trends to other teams when notable.
  • Manage the creation and update process for curated editorial lists, including for off-site/business partner needs.
  • Coordinate with Product team on SEO, media titles, and traffic related to curation, and identify ways to improve the curation process.
  • Work closely with the Product and Business Development departments to manage database- and partner-related projects/problem solving.
  • Assess site traffic and other data to help assist Editorial and cross-organizational stakeholders.
  • Create pathways for increasing our traffic and reach, including sharing our reviews on outward-facing sites (Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB) and owning the Coming Soon page creation process and prioritization.
  • Support Editorial team as needed with cross-team needs, including expenses, general planning and support, contract tracking, invoicing, etc. 
  • Manage new Editorial projects: track deliverables, keep stakeholders accountable, keep records, offer suggestions and feedback.
  • Perform site maintenance tasks (ensuring that back-end data on reviews is accurate, that images on reviews meet our standards, that partner integrations happen smoothly, plus inputting updated reviews, etc.), coordinating with the Product team when necessary.
  • Coordinate with Member Services to respond to customer service tickets submitted about Editorial reviews or requests, and proactively come up with workable responses to known problems.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Impeccable organizational skills.
  • Lived or work experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of media landscape and/or child development principles. 
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment. 
  • Familiarity with Concur or similar finance management systems.
  • Proven ability to be nimble in a fast-paced publishing environment. 
  • Experience with data analytics, SEO.
  • Familiarity with AirTable and Google office suite.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills. 
  • Background in journalism, marketing, media studies, or equivalent experience.
