Through our schools program, we provide educators with a curriculum that teaches the essential digital citizenship and literacy skills every student needs to succeed. We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, and concerned parents, caregivers, and teachers to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.

The Editor, Learning Content, works with the Editorial Director, Learning Content, to provide reviews and advice for educators regarding media, technology, and learning. With a background in education, writing, and editing, the Editor, Learning Content, has an understanding of the edtech space, best practices for using media in the classroom, and an ability to translate this knowledge effectively for educators and caregivers.

REPORTS TO: Editorial Director, Learning Content 

LOCATION: San Francisco, CA, or remote

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and research products for review.
  • Assign, edit, and publish reviews for Common Sense Education.
  • Evaluate education products using the Common Sense learning rating rubric.
  • Recruit and manage freelance reviewers, track assignment dates and deadlines, determine review ratings, and meet deadlines.
  • Write articles that curate and compare resources for classrooms.
  • Write newsletters and contribute to brainstorming sessions for the newsletter calendar.
  • Write advice articles on a variety of topics and other resources as needed.
  • Co-create short-form videos highlighting useful resources for educators.
  • Participate in press interviews and conferences as needed.
  • Stay abreast of trends in education and issues affecting schools/families.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion internally and externally in all forms of work and communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years in some educational capacity.
  • Strong, demonstrable writing and editing skills, and a creative mind.
  • Ability to get and give critical and constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of education trends, and experience using technology and media for learning.
  • Experience triaging priorities while managing several projects at once.
  • Passionate about teachers, educational innovation, and equity.
  • Track record of delivering on commitments and meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently and remotely as needed.
